Harry's page is good for After Effects CS3. With After Effects CS4, control over RAM allocation got better. See "Memory & Multiprocessing preferences" and "Memory usage and storage"
Yes I should have noticed the screenshot.
Also, I've found in a benchmark test for a plug-in that closing other apps did help noticably in improving render times.And I hadn't looked at this AE Help page before either:"Improve performance"http://tinyurl.com/dcgaao
