CS5 Evolves: Warp Stabilizer + Red Epic so far

This is the eve of the next step in the evolution of the Adobe CS suites, as indicated in Adobe messages around the internet last week. Adobe has kept things fairly quiet on Twitter since yesterday, but they had previewed a couple of sneak peeks for After Effects on a Warp Stabilizer and Adobe Red Epic support.

On the Red forum, David McGavran of Adobe mentioned that Epic support for Premiere, After Effects, and Adobe Media Encoder, which works like other Red footage (with mixed timelines) and includes Red Rocket support.

And you may have seen the preview for Warp Stabilizer, but Chris Meyer added a first look based on personal experience, Updated: Adobe Warp Stabilizer (P)Review. There's also a technical  backgrounder from the research team, including video, in Subspace Video Stabilization. Warp Stabilizer seems amazingly easy to use and even eliminates some rolling shutter problems, but it won't perform miracles like getting rid of motion blur in hand held footage.

The countdown has commenced and news from NAB will be coming fast & thick very soon. Among the many news resources is dedicated coverage from ProVideo Coalition and FreshDV. FreshDV has a video backgrounder on their workflow up already.

Here's a sneak peek at Warp Stabilizer a preview of new way to stabilize shaky footage in After Effects. After Effects Facebook says "It's a peek at CS5 getting better. For more information, come see us at NAB or stay tuned to this channel. More to come soon."

Adobe TV has a channel for other recent technology sneak peeks.

Adam Wilt: Final Thoughts on NAB

Adam Wilt is hard to ignore, so here's his NAB 2010: Final Thoughts at PVC. He saw three major trends, the 3Ds: video-capable DSLRs everywhere; 3D production kit, ditto; the Democratization of digital cine cams.

There's a long list if his more specific NAB coverage too.

FreshDV NAB Final Wrapup Discussion + not nodes

FreshDV posted its Final Wrapup Discussion on NAB 2010, along with several other video reviews. And now that it's over, an old song can be put back to bed.

Wrapup

Update: Never say never... something new shows up from NAB... at the very end of an interview with David Basalto for Post, AE product manager Michael Coleman doesn't promise nodes but admits to creative ideas in the hopper that might satisfy the desire for nodes.

Fxguide TV interviews on AE and Premiere CS5

NAB 2010 news, a bit repetitive for CS5 at this point, continues with lovely coverage from Fxguide in fxguidetv #081 (Apr 20) with interviews on After Effects and Premiere CS5 with Michael Coleman and Karl Soule, with Ted Shilowitz on Epic from RED, and with Angus MacKay on reading ProRes and RED files directly and more in Avid Media Composer version 5.

Meanwhile over on MacVideo.tv there's NAB video of Jason Levine going pure coco on Production Premium CS5 at the FCP SuperMeet, and a concise yet thorough Dennis Radeke from the Adobe booth.

Adobe NAB 2010 presentations: Foundry plug-ins + more

Adobe is making some of their NAB 2010 presentations available. It seems a bit Flash-heavy from a distance.

Here's Jim Geduldick, After Effects artist at Offhollywood and leader of the popular AENY user group, who shows how the new features in After Effects CS5—as well as new 64-bit plug-ins from The Foundry—are being used in production (if the audio behaves). There's also Rich Harrington highlighting some of the new features for video professionals in Photoshop CS5.

See Particular 2 in action with Fxguide at NAB +ToonIt 2

Fxguide has news from NAB, and their coverage of Autodesk, The Foundry (Nuke, also PVC on Nuke), RED, eyeon, and other higher end products might make you envious -- especially if you'd like more development of 3D in AE (see esp podcast #054) . More NAB news can be found via the headlines of CrispyFeeds.

The current fxguidetv video podcast, #055 is NAB2009 episode 2, which has a nice long demo of Trapcode Particular 2, a preview by The Foundry of a project that fixes material with rolling shutter, and more.

Update: FreshDV also looks at rolling shutter in an interview with a developer from the Foundry, via Discrete Cosine. And in addition to FreshDV's CrispyFeeds, The Editblog suggests also Mac Video and Mac Break for NAB video.

Update 2:
FreshDV has video demos from NAB 2009 Video - Red Giant Particular 2 and ToonIt 2.

Tim Robbins' NAB keynote speech

Tim Robbins' NAB keynote speech was funny and serious, and criticized the broadcast industry focus on fluff. Robbins could be wrong -- maybe we aren't better than that!

Anyway, there are various versions of the speech available now:

- AR&D's Media Reinvent shot a big screen on a $100 Flip camera.
- Tim posted audio and text on Huffington Post.
- Ad Age has audio in Hear the Six Best Minutes of Tim Robbins' Controversial NAB Speech.

Robbins had much more to say than Ad Age gives you, but they do hint at background details. Lost Remote gave more background in a live-blog.

Update: There a few more... Broadcasting & Cable has an article and the mp3, and TV Worth Watching has more.
