Scrub in audio units in editors

I'm Not Bruce notes (along with other things good to remember) that Syncing Multiclips 1/100th of a Frame at a Time is possible in Final Cut, not just Premiere Pro. In FCP, you can scrub in the audio Viewer with the Shift key down to help with precise tasks.

In Premiere you can choose Show Audio Time Units from the wing menu of the Audio Mixer, Program Monitor, Source Monitor, or Timeline panel.

Update: You can scrub audio in AE, but you don't have the fine control as in Premiere or other NLEs. Nick Campbell explained aspects of The Correct Way To Use Audio in After Effects:

XScriptorium, an ambitious AE scripting resource

XScriptorium, an ambitious AE scripting resource, has launched. The Drupal-built site was intended to be more user-friendly than current sites like Motionscript , redefinery, the AE Enhancers scripting forum, After Effects Scripts, and AE LiveDocs.

The site has just launched so there are birth pangs like missing source credits, though there is a function to reward source authors. More advanced search would be welcome, in addition to the current listings and Tag Cloud.

The AE Scripts Galore roundup summarizes other resources for scripting and expressions in After Effects.

Update: Not sure if I missed it earlier, but Advanced Search is there!

MacVideo & the cutting room floor

Not only for the Mac is MacVideo.TV which has some good interviews and other video from Rick Young of the UK.

The EditBlog notes a new blog called view from the cutting room floor, ruminations on editing from the bottom of the post production ladder, which notes aspects of editing and color correction with a good graphic example.

Pro Video Coalition blog network launches

A new blog alliance has launched, The Pro Video Coalition. It seems to be a reincarnation of much of the old crew of DV Magazine, including Chris & Trish Meyer, Adam Wilt, Mark Christiansen, Mike Curtis, Bruce Johnson, Scott Gentry, Jim Feeley, and Frank Capria.

It's still in beta, so not everything works, but content so far makes it seem to be an important new destination.

Hand Held & Bourne

...from FX Rant's Hand Held Cameras:

"I love how author David Bordwell launches into a topic and digs deep. One [in a series] of his terrific articles is 'Unsteadicam Chronicles,' from his website. I don't necessarily agree with his viewpoints, but I adore how deeply involved he gets with his material."

Anatomy of the Action Picture, mentioned here last February, is another thoughtful article by Bordwell.

These sorts of discussions are what keeps me interested in an industry sector that often sells musical groups like toothpaste and sells toothpaste with hate speech.

Update: The Edit Blog notes an Editing organazized post on editing directions right in the script in The Bourne Supremacy script online

IndyMogul leverages low tech FX

IndyMogul could use The DV Rebel's Guide and has a blog too; this from NewTeeVee:

"Can’t afford a team of digital animators to create special effects for your online video project? Don’t have the necessary permits to fire weapons on set? Is your movie good, but could it possibly be better with, say, a scene where the hero escapes from his nemesis on the wings of a bitchin’ jet pack? Then you need to check out Backyard FX from Indy Mogul.

The newest project out of New York-based New New Networks, Indy Mogul was announced earlier this week. It’s kind of like MAKE magazine, but geared toward the independent filmmaking set."

HD for Indies Pre-NAB Blogwad

HD for Indies Pre-NAB Blogwad is chock full of tangential ADD fun -- like Engadget news that AACS was hacked to expose Volume ID on XBOX 360 HD DVD drives: "Now go ahead AACS LA, revoke the Toshiba-built XBOX 360 HD DVD player... we double-dog dare ya."

Editing blogs

Take enough tangents and you get to places old and new.

The Edit Blog's Avid and Final Cut comparison series has expanded by linking to other interesting blogs on the same topic, like Splice Here by Steve Cohen and Adventures in Storytelling by Robert Hogan (for the linked article anyway).

Edit Blog references more good stuff, like the David Bordwell website on cinema; take a gander at Anatomy of the Action Picture. Or like American Cinema Editors, or ACE the honorary society of motion picture editors (check some specific links here).

DV and HD

You probably know about adamwilt.com, a "video geek's website" and home of the DV FAQ, tidbits, and ruminations on Panasonic's 24p DV cameras. Be sure to catch Adam's column in DV mag, especially the recent one on HD Numerology.

Another fun site is HD For Indies is a "High Definition Video for Independent Filmmakers, A How To Guide for indies on the cheap." It covers HD and HDV, with links to basic and advanced information.
