Bigfug FreeFrame access for AE CS3

For the sake of completeness...

Bigfug has now released a version of their inexpensive commercial product Frame Runner (Windows-only) that enables FreeFrame filters in CS3. It seems like the filters come separately.

FreeFrame is an alternative framework for developing video effects plug-ins and hosts on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX and was initially intended for use in VJ applications. Pete Warden provided a free FreeFrame filters and an AE plug-in to access FreeFrame filters on Windows and Mac OS X, but he didn't update his work for CS3. Pete appears to have moved on to Apple Motion (working at Apple), but the BSD licence will let you maintain the AE versions. His Freeframe filters are still free.

CS3 crossgrade discount for FCP owners

Overheard:

the Adobe store might be offering a nice crossgrade discount on the CS3 Production Premium to owners of Final Cut after 9 pm on June 1, 2008.

Update: It looks like already a mail-in rebate for US$500 off Production Premium or US$300 off Adobe Premiere Pro for Avid Liquid, Liquid Pro, and Avid Xpress users.

CS3 updates nearly finished

from iTWire... "Adobe has delivered Mac OS X 10.5 compatibility updates for two components of Creative Suite 3. The Soundbooth CS3 update is purely for Leopard compatibility. The Premiere Pro CS3 3.1.1 update includes 'important bug fixes' as well as compatibility fixes for Apple's latest operating system and Adobe officials describe it as 'highly recommended' for all users. Leopard compatibility updates for After Effects CS3 and Encore CS3 are still expected this month. Other members of the CS3 family are already compatible with Mac OS X 10.5."

If there's a problem with automatic updates you can go to Adobe downloads.

Update: sort of an aside...with the Abobe site redesign there's a big push for Flash, and little attention to Adobe's actual video tools. See Adobe's broadcast and media solutions are changing the face of entertainment. Flash On. Looks like there might be more elements to be discovered:

NAB 2008 has a similar approach, though the mindshare is red-shifted from creation to commerce, without Avid (see Capria.TV, Splice Here) and maybe a lower profile from Adobe (no logo on floor map). NAB: "...the mecca for those seeking to produce and distribute broadband video across the Internet, via IPTV and for mobile devices, is also where new content deals are being brokered ... between telecom carriers, broadcasters, programming networks and social media outlets..."

CS3 Production Premium and Final Cut

Terry White hosts a Dave Helmly video explaining how to Integrate CS3 Production Premium into your Final Cut Pro workflow.

Hopefully Adobe will someday expand support for XML/OMF, etc export and import so Adobe users can share work across audio and video editing platforms.

CS3 Video Workshop

Pretty cool:
"You can use the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Video Workshop to start learning about any application you’re interested in, whether you own it or not. The Video Workshop shares expertise from across Adobe and the Adobe community—you’ll learn tasks, tips, and tricks from leading designers, developers, and Adobe experts. There are introductory videos for new users, and more experienced users can find videos on new features and key techniques. Many videos show you how to use Creative Suite components together."

CS3 stuff on Design Center Blog

New CS3 stuff is listed on the Adobe Design Center blog: 205 CS3 video tuts, and text tuts such as Updating to Flash CS3, Fireworks and Photoshop integration, Dreamweaver CS3 How-Tos, etc.

CS3 Production Suite public beta April 16

from Creative Cow:
"Recently, Adobe put its new tools into public beta, with users helping to both define and refine tools like Lightroom (now part of the Photoshop family), Soundbooth (a new audio sweetening and soundtrack creation tool), and even the venerable Photoshop itself. But it isn't stopping there and now Adobe has announced that they are placing their dynamic media tool suites into public beta. Yes, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Encore and others will be at the Adobe Labs site beginning April 16th." Picture from Amazon.

Adobe has a nice Flash preso of AE8 features. Ko Maruyama already has a review of AE 8. And Bob Donlan promises more, as John Nack runs down Photoshop news.
