Kinetic typography as storytelling

Type in motion is increasing popular, as seen in Kinetic typography as a storytelling technique a new survey by Lauren M. Rabaino at the journalism blog 10,000 Words. A recent example of something simple but effective is from Matt Rogers using the words and voice of Stephen Fry.

Ok, so kinetic typography may be overdone -- depending on how many roundups you seen in the last 3 years -- but regular roundups are still offered by Topher Welsh at AETuts and by Motion Design Love on some Tuesdays, and more may be seen in the feeds of the inspiration sites aggregated by SqueezeMe.TV.

There's even more to be found at the Vimeo Channels NiceType and Kinetic Typography, in a great Type In Motion class resource and tumblr blog offered by Graham Huber, and in resources found in AEP posts tagged type. And of course AE Help offers guidance, for example in Text animation presets (see a gallery or use Bridge to preview) and Examples and resources for text animation.

There's also several general After Effects tutorials for this style, including Design Rhythmic Motion Typography in After Effects and Create an Animated Homage to Bruce Lee by Markus Gustafsson on AEtuts. In addition, Elrond Hubbard has some tutorials on Crooked Gremlins and Vimeo. Here's one:

Update:
there's an entire now available for this, the course Kinetic Typography Techniques for After Effects by Angie Taylor. Here's a sample:

It's been tough to get into Christmas since I found out about its origin as a pagan holiday. Same for most of the trappings like the Christmas tree, the stories and Santa (mostly a Norse god).

It's not that Santa is Satan necessarily as the Church Lady says, but the whole thing is hyped, sometimes it seems by Scrooge himself.
