New Pixel Bender plug-in: Separate RGB

Satya Meka has a new free filter for After Effects, Separate RGB, which lets you spatially offset RGB channels in a layer without having it to do it on separate layers for each channel, as with the built-in AE Shift Channels filter. This filter is homespun in Pixel Bender, so there may be some minor quirks.

For an earlier AEP look at a cluster of similar ideas, see Chromatic aberrations, seperating RGB.

Update: Satya has another tutorial on AETuts, Create Procedurally Animated Rhythmic Dancing Marbles.

Update 2: CS6 (2012) eliminates support for Pixel Bender, and Satya at least had already switched to using the AE SDK.

A little update, now the plugin automatically detects the Comp size. But I left the parameter incase someone needs it.

Satya.

(Just my attempt to make free plugins more accessible & usable. No self promo!)

Because of the plug-in update this was edited out:

"As it is a Pixel Bender script, it can be used both in Mac OS X and Windows. The downside is that YOU HAVE TO INPUT COMP SIZE, because Pixel Bender doesn’t detect composition sizes automatically yet. ...For text layers you can apply the effect directly. But for images and videos which are less than the Comp size, you have to Pre-Compose the layer into Comp Size."

Great! From next time, I will test Pixel Bender plugins as extensively as I can and release when they are fully done. I apologize for any inconvenience caused.
